Athletissima is eagerly looking forward to seeing Simon Ehammer back in action on August 21, as the Appenzell athlete could be chasing a first-ever victory at the Pontaise. The king of combined events and long jump made headlines in G\u00f6tzis, smashing his Swiss records in the decathlon with 8,778 points and in the long jump with a stunning 8.51m leap. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Ehammer became the first Swiss athlete to win in the Austrian Vorarlberg, the true Mecca of combined events, at the end of a historic weekend that also saw Annik K\u00e4lin take the heptathlon title with 6,726 points, another national record, highlighted by a superb 6.96m long jump.<\/p>\n\n

Last year, we still had the image of a rain-soaked Simon Ehammer in Lausanne, finishing second at the Pontaise under pouring rain with a jump of 7.72m. This year, for his fourth consecutive appearance at Athletissima, he will be targeting a first victory and a first jump beyond the 8m mark, and possibly much further in Lausanne. <\/p>\n\n

In G\u00f6tzis, the TV Teufen athlete achieved the longest jump ever recorded in a decathlon. He also consolidated his progress in the 110 m hurdles (13”48) and shone in the 100 m (10”41), 400 m (47”33) and pole vault (5m20), while limiting damage in the throws, to beat world champion Leo Neugebauer (GER) by 48 pts. His previous records stood at 8575 pts and 8m45. <\/p>\n\n

In the same momentum as Simon Ehammer, Audrey Werro claimed victory in the 800m at the Rabat meeting in a superb 1:56.56. This marks her second Diamond League win, after Zurich in 2025, and the fourth fastest time of her career, the best she has ever recorded at this stage of the season. The Athletissima ambassador left no room for doubt, ahead of Olympic silver medallist Tsige Duguma in second, 0.68 behind, and world champion Lilian Odira in third, 0.71 back. She entered the final 200 metres with a five-metre lead and controlled the finish effortlessly to the line. <\/p>\n\n
