Amsterdam’s Heroes in La Pontaise

Several European champions from Amsterdam confirmed their presence for Thursday the 25th of August in La Pontaise. The giant Polish man Piotr Malachowski, European and World champion as well as 2016 world best performer in discus throw, will be attending the party. As well as Churandy Martina, freshly crowned on 100 m in front of his home crowd in the Netherlands. He will run the 200 m against Ameer Webb (USA), third last week at the American Trials and qualified for the Olympic Games.

Dimitri Bascou from France, European champion on 110 m hurdles, will also be in Lausanne, joined by Beijing’s world silver-medallist and London Olympic Games medallist Hansle Parchmen (JAM).

Women’s Long Jump: a Dream-Like Competition

Following the announcement of the reigning Olympic champion Brittney Reese (USA), who just landed at 7,31 m (PB) during the American Trials, the new European champion Ivana Spanovic has also confirmed that she will come in Lausanne at the end of August. The competition between the gold and silver medallists from Portland’s 2016 World Indoor Championships will for sure be a highlight. 

The Swiss Medallists and Valerie Adams 

Mujinga Kambundji, Lea Sprunger and Kariem Hussein, the three Swiss heroes who won bronze in Amsterdam will also be there. Lea Sprunger will have a chance to get her revenge in front of her home crowd, facing Sara Peterson (DEN), the winner of Amsterdam’s 2016 final and Athletissima 2015.

The new women’s 4×100 m Swiss team is actually flowing (Swiss record and 5th place in Amsterdam) and will be on the track on the 25th of August at the end of the evening. The shot put double Olympic champion Valerie Adams will also compete. Often based in Bienne, the New Zelander trains with the Swiss coach Jean-Pierre Egger and loves the meet : « Lausanne feels like home to me ».
