The women’s 3,000m steeplechase is expected to produce a major performance. Olympic champion Winfred Yavi of Bahrain will be targeting the year’s world-leading time of 8:51.06, set by Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai. In doing so, she will be aiming to record one of the five or six fastest times in history. But she will not be alone: Tunisia’s Marwa Bouzayani, one of the revelations of the season who recently improved her personal best to 8:54.32, and Kenya’s Faith Cherotich, the second fastest athlete in the world this year with 8:51.48 and Olympic champion in 2021, are both capable of pushing the pace and bringing out the very best in the three contenders.
