Felix faces Schippers while Kovacs will clash with Storl! Richards-Ross will be the star attraction in the 400m.
The women’s 200m should bring fireworks. The world’s two fastest women of last year will line up over 200m at Athletissima, an IAAF Diamond league meeting, as Dafne Schippers takes on the likes of Allyson Felix on Thursday 9 July. The US athlete currently tops the 2015 200m world lists after her 21.98 in Doha earlier in Mai, the fastest time in the world since her Olympic triomph in London. She will face a stern test from European champion of Holland, second best time in 2014 with 22.03.
One week ago, Schippers stormed to a Dutch record and European lead of 100m 10.94. She now sits 14th on the European all-time list, her time is the fastest by a European since 2004. An improvement of the speed that should be quickly reflected in the 200 m. She will participate for the third time in Lausanne. In 2013 and 2014, she ran the 100m and the 4 x 100m relay.
The shot putter men are already in great shape. World leader Joe Kovacs was won in Eugene with a solid 22.12 m in front of the double world champion David Storl and Ryan Whiting, silver medallist in Moscow. All three will be on the field in la Pontaise stadium accompanied by Olympic champion Tomasz Majewski.
Finally, the Olympic champion and former world champion Sanya Richards-Ross is announced in the 400m. The US athlete is one of the five athletes who has won on the Lausanne track running sub-50. That was in … 2005 (49.95). It was her one and only victory in Athletissima.
