Sumptuous Line-Up in the 800m and Long Jump at Athletissima

The full men’s long jump podium from the Paris Olympics, as well as the Olympic champion and runner-up in the 800m, will be present at the 50th edition of Athletissima on 20 August. The Lausanne meet also announces the attendance of 100m Olympic champion Julien Alfred (Saint Lucia), and Italy’s Marcell Jacobs, the double Olympic champion from Tokyo 2021 (100m and 4x100m).

Last year, Athletissima was the stage for one of the greatest 800m races in history: Emmanuel Wanyonyi became the second-fastest man of all time (1:41.11), winning ahead of Marco Arop (1:41.72) and Gabriel Tual (1:42.30). The Kenyan, the Canadian, and the Frenchman are set to meet again this year in Lausanne for what promises to be another spectacular showdown. They are, respectively, the reigning Olympic, World, and European champions.

In the long jump, the discipline’s seasoned star, double Olympic and world champion Miltiadis Tentoglou (GRE), will be challenged by rising talent Mattia Furlani of Italy (20 years old), and Jamaica’s Wayne Pinnock—bronze and silver medalists respectively in Paris. Swiss athlete Simon Ehammer, winner of the 2023 Wanda Diamond League final, is also expected.

Sprint queen Julien Alfred will compete in the 200m. The Olympic 100m champion is also a formidable force in the half-lap event. She kicked off her season with a 21.88 time in Florida. Marcell Jacobs will line up in the 100m, his specialty.

A word to fans who don’t want to miss the event on 20 August: nearly 95% of tickets have been sold. With two months to go until the Lausanne meet, around 800 tickets remain available.
