Lausanne

The world’s best sprinters will be present at Athletissima

The 100m women looks to be one of the highlights of the event with the presence of three of the world’s best over the last few years : the triple gold medalist from the 2018 European Championships, Dina Asher-Smith (GBR), the runner-up at the European Championships and reigning World Champion in the 200m, Dafne Schippers (NED), as well as third in the 2017 World Indoor Championships over 60m and 4th at the last European Championships, the Swiss Mujinga Kambundji. One of the crowd’s favourites, she will be looking at a good result in front of her home crowd. She has already triumphed over many big names in the past, so why not again in Lausanne?

In the jumping events, the double world champion and Olympic champion Caterine Ibargüen (COL) will be competing again, in the triple jump. The athlete of the year 2018 is one of the rare athletes in the history of the sport to have figured in some of the best results ever in both the triple jump and long jump. In the men’s event, the young prodigy from Cuba Juan Miguel Echevarría (CUB) will also light up the stadium. At only 21 years of age, he is expected by many experts to soon break the world record (8.95m) held by the American Mike Powell since … 1991.
