A Royal Line-Up for the Women’s Long Jump
The women long jump will be a very open competition, because there won’t be much separating the athletes. Athletissima will perhaps allow the athletes to reach 7 m for the first time this year with a legal wind. The European Champion Ivana Spanovic (SRB), has won the past two editions and hopes to complete the hat trick. She has just jumped 6,99m at the Mediterranean Games, to equal the world-leading mark set by Germany’s Malaika Mihambo, who also will compete in Lausanne. The other jumpers, Christabel Nettey (CAN), Shara Proctor (GBR), Brooke Stratton (AUS) and Lauraine Ugen (GBR) are very close behind.

US sprinters favorites over 200m
The American speedsters should dominate this race. Noah Lyles, at 21 years old, holds the fastest time (19.69) of those taking the starting line and has just proven his pedigree by winning the US Championships over 100m. Isiah Young (19.93) is making strides. Michael Norman (20), world U20 champion and new world record holder in the 400m indoor will be ready to challenge them. The others lining up are Jereem Richards (TTO) who has already run a sub-20 seconds this year and Christophe Lemaitre (FRA) who wants to confirm his level of fitness. Edward Alonso (PAN) completes this prestigious field and the Swiss Alex Wilson will have a great opportunity to improve on his recent national record.

Semenya to Challenge the Best 1500m Specialists
Caster Semenya (RSA), World and Olympic Champion over 800m has decided to tackle the 1500m on the 5th of July at Athletissima in Lausanne. She will be attempting to rock the 1500m hierarchy and dominate the distance. A time of 3:55 is possible, but she will need to beat strong competition from Gudaf Tsegay (ETH) whom has been racking up the victories in 2018. Laura Muir (GBR) runner-up in the World Indoor Championships, Shelby Houlihan (USA) and the Moroccan, Rababe Harafi (MAR), all of whom have run sub-4-minute times this season and faster than Semenya, will also be in the pack. Last but not least, Sifan Hassan (NED), World Indoor Champion in 2016 and bronze medalist in 2015 and 2017 over 5000m, will be raring to go.
