In the 400m women, the favourite will be the runner-up at the World Championships, Salwa Eid Naser. The Bahraini was last year’s winner at Athletissima, in an excellent time of 49”78, and having just won four gold medals at the Asian championships will be looking again to dip under 50 seconds. She will be up against the trio from Jamaica Chrisann Gordon, Stephenie Ann McPherson and Shericka Williams, and she will be wanting to show what she is capable of in her new discipline, formerly favouring the 200m. Also, in the starting line-up will be the American Courtney Okolo and the Dutch Madiea Ghafoor.
