The 200m men’s show down between Christian Coleman, runner-up at the World Championships over 100m, the new shining star of American sprint, Noah Lyles, who has dominated the season so far, and Michael Norman, the new world record holder in the 400m indoor. On the 5000m, we will relive the fantastic head-to-head between the Ethiopians, Muktar Edris, Olympic Champion, and Selemon Barega, both having finished in 1st and 2nd position at last year’s event with a new stadium record. The tussle between Omar McLeod and Sergey Shubenkov that finished1st and 2nd at the last world championships is not to be missed over the 110m hurdles. Not to mention the race between the World Champion, Karsten Warholm and Abderrahman Samba who is unbeaten this season over the 400m hurdles.
Promising Contests The Olympic Champion, Christian Taylor (USA) competing in the triple jump where both himself and the Cuban Pedro Pablo Pichardo now competing for Portugal, will be aiming to land close to Jonathan Edwards’ world record mark of 18m29. In the high jump, Mutaz Essa Barshim dreams of breaking the stadium record currently held by Bohdan Bondarenko (2,41 m) and who will also be present.
The men’s pole vault will be a first down in Ouchy the evening before the event starting at 18H00 at the Place de la Navigation next to the lake shore. Ambitious Swiss
The Swiss, more and more competitive on the international stage, will be represented by 9 athletes with realistic ambitions. A strong challenge will be seen by Mujinga Kambundji in the 100m, Lea Sprunger in the 400m hurdles et Julien Wanders in the 5000m. They will be pushing hard to improve their personal bests and stake a claim to the hierarchy in Europe athletics. Alex Wilson will want to confirm his recent national record in the 200m among the world’s best and Selina Büchel will be looking to run a sub-2 minutes in the 800m. All eyes will be on the return of Kariem Hussein in the 400m hurdles and Angelica Moser in the pole vault following their recent injuries. While Sarah Atcho in the 200m, Alain-Hervé Mfompka in the 400m hurdles and Jason Joseph in the 110m hurdles will be looking at taking the next step up and better their personal bests.
