The perfect race! Ditaji Kambundji delivered a dream final in the 60m hurdles at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn (Netherlands): gold, topped with the European record and the world’s best performance of the season, clocking 7.67 seconds. Nothing less than spectacular.
The Bernese athlete shaved 13 hundredths off her national record. She led from start to finish, beating Dutch star Nadine Visser (7.72). This loyal Athletissima competitor claimed her first major elite title in the process.
He’s one of Athletissima’s favorites, and he’s writing yet another legendary chapter: Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the 1500m title in Apeldoorn — just a “warm-up” before Sunday’s 3000m, where he’ll aim for his third consecutive 1500m-3000m double at the European Indoors. Let’s not forget, the Norwegian has been unbeaten at Athletissima since 2019…
For Simon Ehammer, everything remains possible after a very successful first day in the heptathlon. The Appenzell athlete, well-known to the Athletissima audience since his podium in the long jump last year, currently holds second place in the competition. With 3647 points, he’s right behind Norwegian Sander Skotheim (3689). Ehammer could very well take the lead on Saturday, thanks to the pole vault and especially the 60m hurdles — two of his strongest events.
Also tomorrow, the women’s long jump final promises excitement, as Annik Kälin topped the qualifications with a magnificent 6.77m jump (tying the national record). The athlete from Graubünden is the favorite, and for good reason: in her best jump on Friday, she took off 14cm before the takeoff board’s limit, showing she still has room for improvement.
